Worshiping Alms -

All edible things such as rice, cake, fruit and so on are kinds of ‘alms food’ in Vinaya. When Buddhist monks are invited for food, reverential word of ‘alms’ is mentioned. For example we invite the monks for alms food, alms fruit, and alms cake and so on. Buddhist devotees say: "Alms of worship" to the monks who stand at their doors to ask for alms food unless any food is readily available to be offered. This is a lovely Buddhist tradition.
